Seven-Hour Lamb Leg Recipe: Slow-Cooked Perfection

Seven-Hour Lamb Leg Recipe: Slow-Cooked Perfection

Imagine the tenderest, most flavorful lamb leg you’ve ever tasted — that’s what our Seven-Hour Lamb Leg delivers. This French classic, known as gigot d’agneau de 7 heures, transforms a lamb leg into melt-in-your-mouth perfection. With a slow, aromatic braise and tender vegetables, it’s a perfect dish for special occasions or a cozy meal at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lamb leg
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, halved
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 1 shallot, finely diced
  • 5-6 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • 500 ml (about 2 cups) red wine
  • Small potatoes, as desired
  • Water to cover

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Lamb Leg:

Begin by inserting garlic halves into small cuts made throughout the lamb leg. This adds deep flavor during the long cooking process.

2. Prep the Vegetables:

Thinly slice the onion and dice the shallot. Peel and slice the carrots into small rounds. Set aside.

3. Sear the Lamb:

In a hot cast-iron pot, heat a generous drizzle of olive oil. Sear the lamb leg on all sides until golden, especially on the fat side. Once browned, set it aside.

4. Cook the Vegetables:

In the same pot, add the onions, shallots, and carrots, sautéing in the lamb’s flavorful drippings until lightly caramelized.

5. Add Aromatics and Liquids:

Stir in thyme, rosemary, garlic (in the skin), salt, pepper, and tomato paste. Add the wine and let it reduce slightly. Place the lamb back into the pot, add potatoes (and other vegetables like peas) around it, and pour enough water to cover everything.

6. Slow Cook:

Cover the pot and transfer it to a 140°C (270°F) oven for 7 hours. The lamb will slowly cook to tender perfection, absorbing all the flavors.

7. Serve:

Remove the lamb from the oven, and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve with the vegetables and sauce for a comforting, flavorful meal.

Conclusion:

Seven-Hour Lamb Leg is the ultimate slow-cooked dish. This timeless recipe will fill your home with delicious aromas and give you a meal worthy of any special occasion. Let us know if it becomes a favorite at your table!
